The Montgomery Canal is one to watch. It leaves the Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal at Lower Frankton, and at the moment is navigable only as far as Maesbury Marsh (bridge 81), but there are several stretches between Maesbury and Welshpool where the canal restoration is complete.
The locks to get on to the Montgomery Canal are open 12 - 4 pm. Passage needs to be booked before 10 am in summer, and 48 hrs notice given in winter. Book through CRT 0303 040 4040 or Anderton Lift at weekends 01606 786777
