Ashby Canal

The Ashby Canal runs from Marton Junction (Bridge 15 on the Coventry Canal) to just north of Snarestone, where the current navigation ends (Bridge 61). The canal is generally considered one of the most picturesque of the UK canals, and with 21 miles of lock free cruising, it is certainly one of the most popular. It is also a canal full of historic interest, with the Battle of Bosworth site and visitor centre, the spring where Richard III had his last drink before being defeated by Henry Tudor (see photo opposite), and the spot where Henry Tudor was allegedly first crowned Henry VII.
