Ashton Canal

The Ashton Canal runs from the Rochdale Canal at Ducie Street, then through Ancoats to Ashton-Under-Lyne where it meets the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Whitelands Basin. The Ashton Canal is 6 miles long, and has 18 locks. The canal has had a bad reputation in the past, and the advice is still to travel in the earl mornings, avoiding school holidays. Cruised with care, the Ashton Canal has a great deal of interest to offer, including the National Cycling Centre.
