keeping safe - March 1, 2019Hello everyone! I haven’t written for a little while now, my boating life has been somewhat limited as our narrowboat Ladybird has been in the boatyard for a couple months for repainting and other restoration work. She’s back on her mooring now and looking great! Winter we hope, is on its way out now, and we’ve got longer warmer days to look forward to, and lots of canal related activities to enjoy.
rich pickings - August 1, 2018Hello again! It’s Jane here, retired Nurse and part time canal boat dweller. I hope everyone has been enjoying a wonderful summer on the waterways, whatever you’ve been doing. In the last few weeks, we’ve been out quite a bit on our narrowboat Ladybird, we managed a trip on the amazing Anderton Lift in Cheshire a couple of weeks ago, going from the Trent and Mersey Canal onto the River Weaver. What an incredible experience! I can highly recommend it if ever you are in the area.
food, glorious food - June 1, 2018Hi, Jane Pennington, retired Nurse, boater and food fanatic here, today I’m chatting about a subject that I love …food! You know, I love food. I could not be further from a ‘Eat to Live’ philosophy, I am firmly in the ‘Live to Eat’ camp. I love thinking about food, shopping for it, planning meals, cooking and best of all eating it. The thought that food is merely fuel represents a total anathema to me!
living healthily - March 1, 2018I’ve been a very enthusiastic boater for just over eight years now, and for the last four or so my husband Alan and I have been retired from full time employment. We both did some consultancy for the first couple of years of retirement, but for the last two have been living it up both at home and on our narrow boat in Cheshire. We have a lot of friends and acquaintances that live full time on their boats and although we are not full time live-aboards ourselves, we do spend quite a lot of time on our boat and as part of a boating community.
